North East Snow Storms Meet Justified & Timothy Olyphant: Just found the show a few days ago…Reading Elmore Leonard’s character, Deputy U. S. Marshal Raylan Givens, years ago, I got a real kick out of Leonard’s creation. Almost as real and as interesting as LaBrava, Raylan is one of Leonard’s most well-rounded characters. The writing, production and superb acting of the FX series Justified is a great credit to Elmore, and to Raylan.

Obviously, Mr. Leonard had a say in the choice of Olyphant as Raylan because he’s near perfect in the role. From his sexy walk (Is there a sexier walk- or man- in Hollywood?) to just the right amount of humor, working a role replete with a convincing derring do, the actor’s output over five seasons, now in its sixth, is impressive. He’s got Raylan’s East Kentucky accent and Harlan County attitude. Add the hat and the series is appealing as all git-out.

Walter Goggins as Boyd Crowder is amazing: an imaginative and bravura performance. The large cast of assorted druggies, criminals and miscreants, in addition to the solid characters of supporting U. S. Marshals- one, Tim, convincing as an Afghan War vet, a sniper, is striking in its proficiency. From the writing to the casting to the makeup and sets, Justified is worth the time, and the investment to own the series. Men get to see Raylan’s bravery and in-your face attitude overlaid by finesse; women get to enjoy what we, always against our better judgment, like best: a bad good boy, or a good bad boy; and even Miss Manners learns a few tips on Southern protocols. That is when folks aren’t shooting other folks at point blank range. But even then, they usually say a few polite words, or many, before they do so. This show’s a hoot.
